Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator

Work out the engagement rate of an Instagram account or post. Enter the follower count and the average likes and comments per post. Nothing is sent anywhere: the maths runs in your browser.

Formula: Engagement rate = (average likes + average comments) ÷ followers × 100

How to use it

  1. Open the profile and note the follower count.
  2. Add up the likes and comments on the last 10 posts and divide each total by 10 to get the averages. Skip ads and very old posts.
  3. Enter the three numbers. The rate updates as you type.

Frequently asked questions

Why use followers and not reach?

Follower count is public, so you can compare any account, including competitors. If you have Instagram Insights for your own account, dividing by reach instead gives a reach-based rate that is usually higher.

Should I include saves and shares?

They are only visible in your own Insights. The calculator has an optional field for them; leave it at 0 to compare public accounts on equal terms.

What is a good engagement rate?

It depends on account size and niche: larger accounts usually have lower rates. The most useful comparison is your own rate over time, or accounts of a similar size in your niche.
